Faculty Member, Humanities
About
I am an Anthropologist specializing in contemporary Celtic cultures with an emphasis on Cornwall and esoteric cultural history. I co-edited New Directions in Celtic Studies (2000) and Inside Merlin’s Cave: A Cornish Arthurian Reader (2000) in addition to writing over 30 other articles ranging in topic from Neo Druidry to Celtic cultural tourism. I am past co-editor of the Journal of the Academic Study of Magic (with Susan Johnston Graf), and am working on a biography and several other projects related to the life and work of of Ithell Colquhoun (Francis Boutle).
I have been teaching online since 1999, and have a great love of online pedagogy. I have been fully online since 2002, and I have taught and designed online Humanities and Anthropology for four schools. Additionally, I have long been a champion for both formal and informal online educational strategies. I was an editor of an early online peer reviewed journal, Celtic Cultural Studies, and also helped develop community based online learning initiatives in Cornwall in the UK. I have developed educational resources for publishers, and am frequently on course design teams for my various institutions. I am happy to offer advice, consult or conduct workshops on any aspect of online teaching.
